About Us
Handcrafted in Canada. Built to Last a Lifetime.
Every Iron Art Canada buckle begins the same way it always has — with fire, steel, and two hands that know exactly what they're doing.
My name is Robert Aucoin, and I am the maker behind every piece that leaves this workshop. For over a decade, I have been hand-forging belt buckles and leather accessories the old-fashioned way: no shortcuts, no mass production, no compromises. Just honest craft, refined over more than 10 years of working iron and leather in Canada.
The Process
Each buckle starts as raw steel, shaped at the forge through heat and hammer. I work every curve, edge, and surface by hand — a process that takes far longer than machine stamping, but produces something fundamentally different: a piece with character, weight, and a finish that only comes from human touch.
Leather straps and belts are selected and cut for quality and durability, then paired with hardware that is built to outlast the belt itself. Whether you are ordering a standard design or a fully custom piece, the same care goes into every single one.
Made for You
Iron Art Canada specializes in personalized and custom work — from wedding accessories to one-of-a-kind gifts. If you have a vision, I want to hear it. Custom orders are a cornerstone of what we do, and there is real satisfaction in making something that carries meaning for the person wearing it.
Why It Matters
In a world of fast fashion and disposable accessories, a hand-forged buckle is a quiet statement. It is the kind of thing you pass down, not throw away. That is the standard I hold myself to with every piece I make.
Thank you for taking the time to learn the story behind the work. I hope it shows in every piece you find here.
— Robert Aucoin, Maker & Founder, Iron Art Canada
Formally trained in both graphic design & fine art, Robert Aucoin combined his artistic talents with his love for structural design & welding to create his innovative design and manufacturing studio “Iron Art” in 1993. The studio & workshop are located on the north shore of Loughborough Lake just outside of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. As an artist, Robert remains closely connected to the art community creating one-of-a-kind pieces presented in Art Guilds & Galleries. As a designer, Robert often begins with his own concept, simple sketch, or with an idea from his vast clientele which includes Roots Canada & Soho, N.Y., architects, artists, interior designers, and individual clients worldwide. Whether producing one-of-a-kind items or working with clients anywhere in the world, the bottom line is... they trust Robert with their ideas...concept to completion. While continuing to accept residential and commercial commissions, creating interiors, functional furnishings, and accessories that will last a lifetime, Robert is continually expanding his repertoire. A new line of original, hand-forged, stainless steel, hypo-allergenic buckles were recently designed to complement jeans, suits, and casual wear and are now selling worldwide.
